Day 13
Day 13 - Sorrento
Were are currently in the midst of a Euchre tournament, so who ever isn't playing is writing the days blog:
Greg: Graeme and I started the day earlier than all the others... We walked down the hill from our "mountain retreat" and purchased an assortment of oven fresh breads at the bakery located at the mouth of our "goat trail"... 40 cents a loaf..... One draw back to our master plan was we ate most of the bread on the return trek!!!! It was AWESOME!!!
We trained to Sorrento.... Little red car earned a well deserved day of rest.... Sorrento is truly a "town on the hill", it starts in amongst the mountains and runs all the way down ending at a bay.... It is divided into three very cool areas, a newer commercial area (modern shops and restaurants), an active fishing cove (real fishermen equipped with colourful boats) and the quaint "old town" (narrow street with original buildings). We walked all three areas before descending 400 feet (felt like thousands of steps) and settled on the beach where the kidz spent some time swimming in the surf.....
Alyssa: The water was beautiful (as always in this country) although most of the beaches were super crowded. After some walking we came across a fairly empty beach with a pretty sweet view of Mount Vesuvius as well as some Italian sailors (debatable which view was better). While myself and the boys swam, mom and dad sorted out the excursion for tomorrow, which will be a boat ride out to a town on the Amalfi Coast called Positano (pretty pumped).
Graeme: Call me Sheldon Cooper because I LOVED our train ride to Sorrento, it was like a stream going through a meadow, peaceful. To get to the train station we had to go all the way down our steep hill, it was an adventure but the little red S%$T pulled through. Once getting to the underground parking it was smooth sailing. We took our seats and watched the amazing views. the first stop {which wasn't ours} had an odd stopping point, it was in a middle of a bridge, that was 600 feet high, mom had to close her eyes thats how high up we were. All in all there were many great views that were so good its hard to put into words. Graeme's out. {P.S. sorry for not writing that much, it was a quick Euchre game.}
Matthew: Once we were done relaxing by the beach, the crew walked up a steep hill. I suggested we take the elevator back to the top, but we needed to know the route to the bottom of the hill when we book our boat tomorrow. About half way up the hill we realized that there was a stair case that lead to the top of the escarpment, but going up the steep steps would be hard on some people in the crew. So, as you would guess, we continued up the treacherous hill. Finally the steep walk was over and we walked to a piazza on the other side of the town because Graeme was hungry and I wanted to find a book store. Of course, the one book store we find in Italy was closed when we got there :(
Micki: Tournament over... I won ... :)
Italian Word of the Day: treno means train (a necessity around here...did we mention the driving???)
