Day 16
Day 16 - Travelling to Matera
This is our shortest post yet! We left Vico Equense this morning, after tidying up our house and packing the car. We made the final trip down the mountain..... successfully with "no honks"......Greg is definitely getting the hang of things :)
We left the west coast and drove east through the region of Basilicata to the town of Matera which is on the border between Basilicata and Apulia. The drive was only 3 1/2 hours, but with a washroom stop and a later start today, we basically arrived at the hotel (yes, Hilton again) by 3:00 for check in.
The hotel is more "resort like" than the other Hiltons and so we will be able to enjoy some downtime next to the pool and palm trees for the next few days!
Only two pictures today.....I promise back to the usual tomorrow when we head into the centre of town and see the "sassi" which are cave-like houses that are over 5000 years old (and still lived in!). Stay tuned.....
Love to Everyone:)

Italian Word of the Day: palma which means palm tree (who would have thought palm trees in Italy?)
