Day 6
Day 6 – Cinque Terre
So I am back …finally they are letting me do the write up again! I need to be very clear, that there is in fact NO SUN BURN! Thanks to the Tilley, I am basically Canadian white still (working on a tan though!). The region of Liguria is so amazing! I am not sure how we are going to move on with our trek around the boot without comparing everything to this first stop! As I am typing, I am sitting on our balcony high on the coastal mountain that overlooks the Ligurian Sea, watching the sunset. The children are inside playing euchre :0 Yes, all four of my children!
Yesterday you were able to see pictures of a small town called Tellaro, which was a short, albeit treacherous, bus ride from Lerici, where we spent part of the day chilling by the sea and of course jumping off rocks! We also discovered a “tunnel” in Lerici that leads to a small but very cool little beach where we enjoyed more swimming time!
Today we went to Cinque Terre (5 towns). These are literally 5 towns along the coast that you either travel to by boat or by train….since we are on a budget, the train won out! All five towns were similar, yet each had its own unique features. We managed a family selfie at each stop, and of course the day would not be complete without more cliff jumping, which has become a daily “staple” (lol), so much so that I am wondering how the kids are going to handle Rome? Jumping from the top of ancient ruins into a nearby fountain perhaps? ….stay tuned!
The little red car continues to take us everywhere we need to go, and Greg is becoming a real fan of standard drive! He is totally adapting the Italian way to drive that includes stopping on a dime, waving your hands out your window to signal whose turn it is to go, parking in what appears to be impossible places and handling rotaries like the car is on rails! Although he is also eyeing with envy the many, many, many motorcycles that are able to weave in and out of lanes, make their own lanes, join the bus lanes and basically rule the roads (helmets appear to be optional, and exceeding the speed limit seems to be encouraged!). If he could fit all of us on the back of a Harley, I think he would be all in!
Italian Word of the Day: autostrada which means highway (are you a little concerned that it has taken us 6 days to figure this out?)
Love to Everyone!! And please be patient with our delays in posting L We have no wifi in the house, and so we rely on “stops” along the way that have been few and far between!
Micki
PS : Bubbie and Poppa Jack: please tell Sandra that her black purse is AWESOME and, embarrassingly enough, I only take it off to sleep
Below is a Family Selfie in every port!
