Day 15
Day 15 - Herculaneum
This was a big decision! Of course, most families would go to Pompeii......but after much reading and extensive research.....we decided to go to Herculaneum instead!
Pompeii is of course the most "famous" site because of the vast size of it, however the ruins at Herculaneum are far more preserved because this city is closer to Mount Vesuvius and was therefore covered in lava (not ashes as is the case with Pompeii). They have excavated only 25% of this buried town, but wow! It was incredible to see the details of the homes, shops, bath houses and gardens of this Roman settlement from the first century.
We all enjoyed the walk through time, and were impressed by the sophistication of the culture.
The day finished with a family movie back at the airbnb...... Pompeii of course! Either we chose it since we wanted to see more of the famous Mount Vesuvius eruption or we wanted to see more of Kit Harington..... hmmmm, it is definitely a toss up!
Love to everyone !
