Day 19
aDay 19 - Altamura
So today was about searching.....searching for the cave churches and searching for bread! A very religious day I would say!
So good news and bad news. The bad news is that because a pathway was "closed" , we were unable to hike to the cave churches (well I need to guiltily admit that maybe for me this was good news....hiking ? really? ...but let's keep that as our little secret ;) The good news is that we found bread! Now, I have to explain that the town of Altamura is known throughout the country as having the best bread, so this was truly an exciting event! The bread is made from durum flour from this region and baked with a thick crust. It was unanimous amongst the Staples family that the bread lives up to its reputation. A definite crowd pleaser, and worth the drive to Altamura. You'll notice that the streets of the town look abandoned in the picture below...that is because we arrived during the Italian equivalent of a "siesta" time, which seems to happen everyday between noon and 3:00 pm. Lucky for us the panetteria was open during this time!
Poolside again for some R&R .
Not a lot of pictures today, so we have included a little treat for everyone! We call it 'Whale Watching in Italy'
See the video below:
Ciao !
Italian Word of the Day: panetteria which means bakery :)
