Day 7
Day 7 – Camaiore and Candalla
We slept in! Not an easy feat I may add since there are many, many, many “noises” that surround us here in our little town on the hill. Our windows of course are always open (no air conditioning!). These are all noises that have become very familiar to us:
Once we managed to rise and shine, and after our usual yogurt and eggs breakfast, we set out to find a not-so well known waterfall in a small town in the hills called Camaiore. With a brief stop to ask directions (not easy as you can imagine since the extent of our Italian has not progressed far past “ciao” ,“prego” and “grazie”) we were able to find the Candalla Waterfall without too much difficulty. It was fresh water coming off the mountain, and very, very cold! The kids had a great time jumping off the rock into the pool of water at the base of the falls (shocking , right?). All in all a great excursion ….. everyone loved the hidden gem in the hills!
Sadly, it is our last night in Lerici, so we walked down to the town piazza for the last time tonight and Graeme and Matt swam for the last time in the harbour!
Off to Rome tomorrow….. with a stop in Pisa on the way! To honour the trip to the famous town, Greg has cooked up some frozen pizza (which apparently is way better than Canadian frozen pizza), and we will be bringing it with us so that the boys can have “Pizza in Pisa” ??
What can I say about that…..I’ve got nothing.
Love to All! And I promise it will be a new journalist tomorrow!
Micki
Italian Word of the Day: CHIUSO which means closed (Graeme’s discovery as he is ALWAYS searching out bakeries so that he can buy a loaf of bread .. every day … it is part of our mission to keep him fed and happy!)
PS Lorna: the bug spray is awesome and getting a lot of use!

- the lady who lives on the terrace outside our balcony has two Jack Russell Terriers (Aunt Mary, you would love them!!!)
- the church, which is the building next to ours, chimes every hour and every half hour
- the man who works on the scaffolding next door starts his work early before it gets too hot
- the store/bar/hang out place across the alley from us called “John Paul” (I assume after the pope?) is always busy with people sitting outside at all hours (really cool actually…it is the local meeting place for everyone who lives in La Serra)….also cool to note that once you are “in” La Serra, there are no cars on the alleys and laneways that weave through the mountain; everyone just walks everywhere!
